People driving past Ferndale High School (FHS) today got a surprise as they encountered a damaged hulk of a passenger vehicle surrounded by police tape.

Turns out the wreckage is on display preceding a DUI and distracted driving awareness student assembly scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, April 12th, at FHS.

According to Whatcom County Fire District 7 (WCFD7) EMT and Firefighter Jacob Anderson, tomorrow’s student assembly will involve multiple agencies along with many emergency vehicles on the school campus, a sight, much like the wreckage by the roundabout today, that could be concerning to those unaware of what was happening.

Along with WCFD7, PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center, Washington State Patrol, Ferndale Police and Airlift Northwest will participate in tomorrow’s assembly. Anderson says the assembly will include an enactment of a crash including packaging and transporting one student actor-patient to an Airlift Northwest helicopter that will land at the football field and then take off with the patient during the assembly.

Anderson says, in addition to the helicopter activity, neighbors and people driving past the school campus tomorrow can expect to see a large contingent of emergency vehicles approaching and remaining on the campus during the student assembly.

  1. the crashed car at the roundabout is a great idea!! There should be fake bodies, blood. That would really get the message across to SLOW DOWN and don’t drive while drinking or smoking dope! I don’t go to town when the high school lets out it’s too crazy then!!
