Ferndale Police and other law enforcement agencies and aid units converged on the Ferndale Motel 6, 5671 Riverside Drive, this morning just before 9am after receiving a report of a person with a gunshot wound. According to initial reports they discovered a person with a shoulder wound in a vehicle in the parking lot and soon after found another person on the backside of the property with stab wounds.
As of 9:10am, police advised the scene was secure and they believed all involved parties had been detained.
Whatcom County Fire District 7 Division Chief Ben Boyko said the person with the gunshot wound was transported ALS (advance life support) to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center in critical condition. The person with a stab wound injury was transported BLS (basic life support) with non-life threatening injuries.
Ferndale Police are still investigating this morning’s assaults. The only new details released were about the subjects’ injuries. One person had “a gunshot wound to the upper torso” and the other “a knife wound to the lower jaw.”
Ferndale Police also said in an email, “All involved subjects and witnesses were contacted and this has been determined to be an isolated incident, there is no safety concern to the community at this time.”
