A commercial truck driver was refused entry into Canada yesterday when it was discovered he was carrying a gun. After getting turned around at the border, he decided to ditch the gun in a field off Barrett Road by the Pilot Travel Center truck stop.
When the truck driver reattempted entry into Canada it was learned what he had done with the gun. US Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) and the Ferndale Police Department were notified according to Ferndale Police Lieutenant Bill Hatchett.
Neighbors noticed several CBP marked vehicles along Barrett Road and CBP agents who appeared to be looking for something.
Hatchett said the search of the field did result in recovering the gun. It was not known if any charges were pending.
