Ferndale High School (FHS) Theater and the City of Ferndale Arts Commission are preparing for Ferndale Summer Youth Theater rehearsals and performances of “Willy Wonka Kids” and “High School Musical, Jr” this summer. But first, auditions need to be held.
Organizers have scheduled auditions for Tuesday, May 22nd, and Thursday, May 24th, in the FHS auditorium which gives prospective performers time to practice.
Auditions for performers in grades 2 through 5 (they will be auditioning for “Willy Wonka Kids”) will be at 5pm to 6:15pm either days. Performers in grades 5 through 8 (they will be auditioning for “High School Musical, Jr”) will be at 6:15pm to 7:30pm either day. Students in Grades 9-11 are able to audition from 7:30-8:30 on either night.
Organizers say 5th graders may audition for either or both shows but will be placed in the cast they fit best (considering height, maturity, cast needs, space available, etc.).
Prospective performers are advised to come to auditions prepared to sing a short Broadway or Disney-type song ‘a cappella’ and to wear clothes and shoes that are easy to move around in. Everyone will participate in a group dance audition.
Rehearsals will be held Monday through Friday beginning in July. There will also be “pre-camp” music and dance rehearsals in late June and early July.
Cost will be $65 for participating in the “Willy Wonka Kids” production and $75 for the cast and $55 for the crew participating in the “High School Musical, Jr” production. These costs include a show t-shirt and help cover production costs including costumes, sets, facility rental and staff. What is leftover will go to support FHS Theater.
Some scholarships covering all or part of the costs are available. Donations are also being accepted to enable providing these scholarships.
